Tonsillitis & Adenoids

Understanding Tonsils and Adenoids

Tonsils and adenoids are parts of the lymphatic system, acting as a defense barrier against infections. However, recurrent bacterial infections can cause them to become chronically inflamed (tonsillitis) or hypertrophied (enlarged), especially in pediatric patients. This leads to severe sore throats, painful swallowing, and nighttime breathing blockages.

Coblation Tonsillectomy

Dr. Rohit Agerwal utilizes advanced Coblation technology for surgical removals. Unlike conventional cauteries that use high heat, coblation employs radiofrequency energy to dissolve tissue at lower temperatures. This minimizes surrounding tissue damage, reduces postoperative throat pain, and speeds up healing.

Post-Op Guidelines

Day 1 - 3: Soft, Cold Diet

Liquid and cold foods (ice creams, cold milk, yogurts) soothe the throat. Rest and stay hydrated.

Week 1: Scab Dissolution

Mild pain is normal as protective scabs dissolve. Avoid scratchy, spicy, or hot foods.

Day 10: Return to School / Work

Complete mucosal recovery. Swallowing returns to normal, and normal diet can be resumed.
